Introduction to Outdoor Rock climbing

Step Outside onto the Real Thing!

Outdoor Rock Climbing is an exciting way to engage with the beautiful Swiss Alps. Challenge yourself on the rock and climb to the top. The accomplishment brings big smiles, and the fantastic views are worth the effort.

This 1-day adventure is a great introduction for beginner climbers who want to try outdoor rock climbing. Have you been to a climbing gym before and got hooked, or maybe you want to check it off the bucket list? Either way, you will enjoy one of our group or private courses.

Here’s an Overview of the Introduction Climbing program:

  • Basic rock climbing theory. “How does it work?”
  • Learn climbing techniques
  • Learn how to Belay a climber
  • How to tie basic climbing knots
  • Climbing terms & communication between partners
  • Safety and hazards briefing
  • Understanding a Guidebook
  • Experience the unique feeling of rock climbing

No problem if you don’t have the equipment. We have you covered! We provide all the climbing equipment, such as:

  • Ropes
  • Harnesses
  • Helmets
  • Carabiners
  • Technical materials

*Climbing Shoes are required but NOT included. The size and ‘feel’ of a climbing shoe is unique to each climber and we do not offer this service. Many ‘mountain shops’ sell climbing shoes and have knowledgable staff to help you. Stores like, Transa (Zurich or Bern), Bächli (various locations), Bike and Climb Up (Ibach, Schwyz).

There are endless outdoor climbing locations throughout Switzerland, some easier to access than others. Which one is right for you? Several factors are taken into consideration when choosing the event location, such as:

  • Guest skill level and goals
  • Guest physical location and mode of transportation
    • Are you traveling? Let me know your itinerary and I’ll work with you.
  • Weather forecast and conditions
  • Tim will be in direct contact with you about the final location

Common climbing areas in Central Switzerland:

  • Chämiloch (Seewen)
  • Passe Ibergeregg (Schwyz)
  • Lopper (Lucerne)
  • Erstfeld (Uri)
  • Ponta Brolla (Ticino)
  • Grindelwald Gletscherschluct (Berner Oberland)
  • Interlaken (Berner Oberland)

This new climber gave the course a 5-Star Review:
“As a beginner to rock climbing, I’m really glad I learned through Tim. He is patient, encouraging, able to match the pace and skill level of different climbers and someone you can trust in challenging situations on the rock. He also has really fun climbing stories to share! I thoroughly recommend booking a rock climbing course with Tim.  -Yvonne
