We recommend the following itinerary to & from Zurich HB to Bolzano Hbf, Italy:
Transfers to and from the train station and all climbing locations will be provided. You won’t need to worry about navigating the area on your own.
Our team will stay together in an apartment centrally located around various rock climbing areas. You will have comfortable accommodations with all necessary amenities like hot showers, a comfortable bed, a kitchen, a space for relaxing and recovering between adventures.
Whether it’s a home-cooked meal or eating in a restaurant, the trip price includes your meals. You will also have access to the kitchen anytime to prepare something for yourself.
Each participant should have the appropriate health and rescue insurance while traveling abroad. Check with your insurance provider for supplemental coverage. Alpine Clubs from different countries include rescue insurance with the membership (example: Deutsche Alpine Verein DAV, Austrian Alpine Club AAC).
When traveling to a new climbing area, it is essential to create a progression of skills that follows the difficulty and complexity of the climbing. Our team will follow a similar trajectory and build our confidence as the trip progresses. Depending on the experience level of the climbers who join, these lessons will be adjusted to maximize success. The climbing overview below gives a general sense of such a progression.
Climbing day 1
The goal on the first day is to create a foundation and set the tone of the trip. Our lessons will begin with single-pitch, bolted Sport routes at Cinque Torri. A great area to become familiar with the rock. Essential topics will be discussed and reviewed during ground school to ensure competence and shared understanding. After that, we will go climbing! Topics include:
When time permits, our lessons could expand into Day 2 topics.
Climbing day 2
After ‘warming up’ on sport climbs, the complexity increases with Traditional Protection (‘Pro’), such as Cams (also called Friends), nuts, and natural protection. Traditional climbing routes do not have bolts. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the lead climber to put or set Pro during a lead climb, a valuable skill for any climber.
A demonstration and discussion about how to place effective Pro will be followed by a practice session. Then we’ll go climbing!
Climbing day 3
Building on our previous training, the focus will shift to the committing multi-pitch objectives of the region. Multi-pitch techniques will be demonstrated and practiced on the ground before launching into the vertical world. I’d like you to please apply your newly learned skills as we climb routes ranging between 75-150m.
These routes will test the ability and strength of our team and will require our best effort. It’s an opportunity to solidify your skills and techniques and take your climbing experience to the next level.

Curious about the difference between Lead climbing and Sport climbing?
In sport climbing and traditional (trad) climbing, the lead climber is the first to climb, taking the rope with them. However, there are some critical differences between the two styles.
Sport climbing routes have pre-drilled bolts and anchors that the lead climber can clip quickdraws and rope onto for protection. This means that sport climbing requires minimal gear and is an excellent option for those new to lead climbing.
On the other hand, traditional ‘Trad’ climbing involves placing protection or ‘Pro’ along the route, such as cams or nuts, or using natural features like cracks. Trad routes typically don’t have pre-drilled bolts or anchors, but a few problematic areas occasionally require bolts for protection.
In summary, while sport and trad climbing involve lead climbing, the difference is that sport climbing routes have pre-drilled bolts and require minimal gear, while trad climbing involves placing your protection along the route and may not have any pre-drilled bolts.
This course focuses on lead climbing Sport routes only. We offer private instruction for Traditional climbing techniques; contact us for more information.
What is the “Sharp End,” Anyway?
The end of the belay rope is attached to the lead climber. “Being on the sharp end” refers to lead climbing, which is more psychologically demanding than top-roping or following since it may involve more route-finding and the possibility of longer, more consequential falls.

“We had an awesome day with Tim doing a multi pitch course near Interlaken. We booked on very short notice, and still he was able to organize an awesome day for us. He was super knowledgeable and made the course really enjoyable for us. And took some incredible photos for us too. Recommend!” – Alex (UK)
Tim took me up a multipitch climb up the side of the Stockhorn in Switzerland – and it was absolutely awesome!! I have a couple years experience in climbing with mostly single pitches and a couple multipitch routes, and to be able to go up with someone like Tim was very beneficial to me. I told him my previous climbing experience, and about the level that I was climbing at, and he picked a route that challenged me, but did not overwhelm me.
I think the best part of my experience (if I had to choose just one thing) would be that Tim also taught me a lot of rope management skills, and tips and tricks that help with efficiency while on the route. I had an absolute blast, and am looking forward to the next adventure with Tim! – Josh (USA)

Have you ever been in the mountains and seen rock climbers high on a rock face? That’s multi-pitch rock climbing, and routes range from 2 to 25+ pitches (50-400+m!) with various degrees of difficulty.
Multi-pitch climbing involves ascending a route that includes one or more stops at belay stands, with a pitch from one belay stand to the next. Tim, your guide, will lead a pitch while the second climber lead-belays him. This process is repeated until the route is completed and you climb to the top. From there, the team will descend either by foot or rappelling (abseil) down to the ground.
At Life Adventure Guiding, we carefully select the best route for your team based on factors such as skill level, time available, weather conditions, and motivation level. Before and during the climb, our guide will provide instructions on specific tasks and movements, as well as words of encouragement. There will be time to capture incredible photo opportunities too.
Our two-day trip with an Alpine hut overnight is an excellent opportunity to combine rock climbing with the community around hut culture. Wake up to breathtaking Alpine sunrise views and enjoy the fantastic climbing routes right outside the huts.
Safety is our top priority, and we ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable climb. We provide all the necessary climbing equipment, including ropes, harnesses, helmets, quickdraws, and other technical gear. Climbing shoes are required but not provided. Our experienced guides will also provide instructions on how to properly use the equipment and ensure that it is well-maintained and in good condition.
All you need to bring is your enthusiasm and a willingness to challenge yourself. Book your adventure with us and experience the thrill of multi-pitch climbing in Switzerland!

I met Tim by chance, and when he showed me his website and offered his intro classes, I decided to give it a shot. I am SO glad I did because it really made my time in Lauterbrunnen incredible! I went into it with just a little bit of experience, and he taught me the basics of top roping and lead climbing. By the end of the day, I was able to lead climb a 25m route and clean the gear on the way down! He is a phenomenal teacher and a great guy as well. I had a lot of fun and really developed my skills. Thanks again, Tim!
